there are days in the time since my children became adults that I have been glad they are out of my house and safely occupied somewhere I presume and I need not worry about them

To be a mother is always to be concerned. But there are days when I am so glad my son is my daughter in law’s problem now😛

What fascinates me is that when they are far away and doing their own thing, I don’t worry about them but presume they are fine. But, when they come home and/or live close, I’m more involved in their lives, and I worry more. It’s probably all about attention and awareness of the little things in life that affect all of us.

Yes, I find that to be so as well. I think it is better that I have less information about what is going on in their lives – in this case, less info means I have less to worry about!
