four years old
her tutu outfit made complete
by purple rain boots
with the toes turned out
because they’re on the wrong feet
hair uncombed with a bit of curl
eyes wily brown and a ready smile
always running from here to there
scooping up life with both her hands
some for her mouth, some on her face,
her world is scattered all over the place

Your slice of life is a little slice of my life oh so many years ago. I just got off the phone with my daughter who was once bedecked in tutus as well. Now she’s a high school teacher and swim coach but I still remember her in her tutu and cowboy boots. I love how you painted her so perfectly four, exuberant, fast paced, determined (toes turned out because they’re on the wrong feet) and happy!

What a lovely poem! I know this little girl is in my class 😉 Love the lines, “by purple rain boots, toes turned out, because they’re on the wrong feet.”
